Trauma Smart
Trauma-informed training that supports real change
At heard LEARNING, we offer practical, accessible trauma-informed training for professionals who support children, young people and adults who have experienced trauma.
Our training is shaped by over two decades of lived and professional experience. It moves beyond theory and focuses on what actually helps in real situations. The emphasis is always on understanding what sits beneath behaviour and supporting responses that feel safer, steadier and more effective in everyday practice.
Everything we deliver is designed to be usable, relevant and supportive, not just on the day of training, but over time.
We offer CPD-accredited training, bespoke learning shaped around your setting, and delivery that works whether online or in person. Support can be provided for individuals, teams, or whole organisations, depending on what feels most helpful.
Our aim is always the same. To support learning that makes a difference in how people think, respond and work together long after the session has finished.
“This training has definitely given me something to reflect on personally and professionally. My colleagues are still talking about it a week later. I’m really looking forward to future training.”
How We Help
Some organisations come to us at the very start of their trauma-informed journey. Others are looking to strengthen or embed practice across teams or services. Wherever you are starting from, we work with you to provide learning that fits your context and your goals.
TraumaSmart
A shared foundation for trauma-informed practice
TraumaSmart is our core, CPD-accredited training programme. It provides teams with a clear, practical understanding of trauma and how it influences behaviour, communication and relationships.
The training begins with a planning meeting so the session can be shaped around your setting and the people you support. This is followed by a full day of training that focuses on real-world situations and practical strategies that teams can begin using straight away. All participants receive TraumaSmart CPD certification.
TraumaSmart is suited to settings that want high-quality trauma-informed training without the need for long-term consultancy or whole-setting accreditation.
If you’d like to talk through whether TraumaSmart is a good fit for your team, we’re happy to arrange a conversation.
TraumaSmart+
Supporting longer-term change across organisations
Our training is designed with real social work environments in mind. It works with busy caseloads, risk-focused practice and emotionally demanding situations, rather than setting expectations based on ideal conditions. We support practitioners to better understand how trauma can shape communication and behaviour, particularly when people feel threatened or overwhelmed. This understanding helps practitioners stay clearer in the moment and supports responses that are steadier rather than reactive. The training also creates space to reflect on professional judgement under stress. Practitioners explore how to reduce escalation during meetings, visits or assessments, while still holding boundaries and responsibility. Attention is also given to how people can look after themselves in the work, so that compassion remains possible over time. Each session is shaped around the service area, the roles in the room and the people being supported. We work with the reality of practice as it is, rather than how it might look on paper.
Specialist Training Modules
Alongside our core programmes, we offer a range of specialist workshops that can be delivered as standalone sessions or combined into a tailored package.
These include training in areas such as brain development, working with looked-after children, understanding sensory needs, supporting teenagers and addressing vicarious trauma. Each session includes a planning meeting so content can be shaped around your organisation, your roles and the people you support.

VR Training Experiences
Our VR training offers immersive learning that helps bring trauma‑informed understanding to life. These sessions allow participants to experience situations from another perspective, supporting reflection and deeper insight.
VR training is delivered in small, supported groups and can be added to other training modules where appropriate. It is designed to complement learning, not overwhelm it.
Why choose heard LEARNING?
Organisations work with heard LEARNING because they want training that feels realistic, respectful and useful.
Our work is shaped by experience rather than trends. We focus on practical responses rather than jargon, and we take time to understand each setting before training begins. Delivery is flexible and shaped around real pressures, rather than ideal scenarios.
Above all, we support organisations to create environments where people feel safe, understood and supported to do their work well.
